Pastor Robin and her husband Tim will be on retreat in Trego, WI at the Heartwood Conference and Retreat Center from September 2 - 10.
The retreat is designed for growth in their marriage, as well as personal and professional growth and renewal. The cost of this retreat is absorbed by the participants but subsidized and sponsored by "The Fellowship" an organization that leads retreats for pastors and their spouses. Please keep Tim and PR in your prayers as they look to grow together as husband and wife as well as finding strength for ministry here at Sychar! |

[Edited to fix wrong link on Sunday the 22nd -- edits in italic]
Sychar Fantasy Football is back! All you need to participate is a little good-natured competition and the ability to login to Yahoo. The rosters are slimmed down a bit this year which should make it even easier for the less competative to take part. We have a Quarterback, 2 Wide Receivers, 2 Running Backs, 1 Tight End/Running Back/Wide Receiver option position, Kicker, and a Defense/Special Teams position. Only 8 positions to keep track of means you won't necessarily need to watch every single football game on TV.
The League can be joined by using the following link: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/register/joinprivateleague_league_select?.scrumb=
League ID# is 448543
The password to get in is the first book of the bible, with no capitalization.
Very easy, anybody can do it. The Sychar League can be joined found after signing up by clicking on the following link: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/sychar
Teams need to be in SOON. The draft will take place automatically on or around the 26th 29th of August. We need to get an even number of teams, and the more participants the better. You don' t need to actually attend Sychar, but you should know somebody that does! Clean 'smack talk' will be welcomed from all. |

This posting is to simply document the settings used for the sermon audio. This may be handy for other tech heads or sound technicians that are tasked with creating sermon audio podcasts for their church. The church sermon is generally recorded with the iKey recording device directly to a flash memory device in a full quality .wav format. We then process it with the Audacity program to remove background noise. At that time we encode that .wav file as an .mp3 file. We use the LAME mp3 encoder. The conversion is done with a command line:
lame --alt-preset 24 -mm inputfile.wav outputfile.mp3
Frequently the --alt-preset 24 is pushed down to 20 or 16 to attempt to keep the filesize down below 5Megs. Even a target bitrate of 12 is possible, but is very thin and doesn't sound very nice. Special occasions and events will frequently be encoded at a significantly higher bitrate of 128 or 192, and that version is stored only on the church server for internal use. If you require a higher quality recording such as this, see the office to get it on a flash drive or CD.
Blessings to you all, and please share these sermons with folks that can't make it to church or need to hear the Word of God faithfully preached. |
